I was also told by the person who brought it that the red is not artificially colored (an extra plus in my book). My son who normally doesn't like cake, was fighting for the last piece! His birthday isn't for 6 more months but he's already stated that he wants a Susie's Red Velvet for his next party. I'm a carrot cake lover so I'm looking forward to trying theirs as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19900431.post-2631579351838685822007-09-04T15:13:00.000-07:002007-09-04T15:13:00.000-07:00Well, lets begin by saying that I love Susiecakes ...Well, lets begin by saying that I love Susiecakes cupcakes and some of the other desserts. I've tried Magnolias in New York (overrated), Toast and Joans on Third, didnt like either one (too dry for my taste),Doughboys (never again), and Sprinkles. Sprinkles was my favorite until I tasted Susiecakes. I took some to work and now they have me driving to Brentwood for cupcake orders. I have several of my friends addicted, as well as myself. I could just eat the frosting alone. i am now a Susiecakes girl. Way to go Susiecakes!!!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19900431.post-87437091974180756122007-08-04T09:23:00.000-07:002007-08-04T09:23:00.000-07:00I love their cakes. Moist, rich, tasty, and sure to put a smile on everyone's face. It was presented very nicely.

A better Red Velvet Cake than Joan's on Third (I've found that theirs almost take like it has preservatives in it - the basic taste is pretty good - but it has the texture and consistency of a Hostess twinkie) but not quite as good as the Red Velvet Cake at Ms. Peaches Soul Food in NoHo.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19900431.post-1159577091944571242006-09-29T17:44:00.000-07:002006-09-29T17:44:00.000-07:00My new favorite. I had a mint chocolate (yes the green frosting enticed me!). As other readers have written, the cake was airy and light - not thick and dense like Sprinkles. The extra frosting in the middle was perfect. I have had cupcakes from Toast (not so great) and Joan's on 3rd (overrated). I am actually now thinking cupcakes for bday partys over Hansen's cakes ... a statement I never thought I would say!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19900431.post-1157939357183322632006-09-10T18:49:00.000-07:002006-09-10T18:49:00.000-07:00Hi there,Thanks for this fabulous blog! If any of you travel to the other end of LA, Auntie Em's makes fabulous cupcakes as well. Sprinkle's in BH is a bit too sweet. Clementine, Joan's on Third and Toast are just ok. It was a very light/bright red (perhaps no cocoa powder?), and essentially flavorless, but the cream cheese frosting was spectacular, like all of her forstings it was not too sweet. The cookies look great, they are just too big (5-6 inches in diameter) for my taste. I have yet to try Doughboys or Toast, I will have to add them to my list. Thanks.triplecremehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03692192931108371667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19900431.post-1153428192880329612006-07-20T13:43:00.000-07:002006-07-20T13:43:00.000-07:00I tried it out yesterday and maybe overdid it, but...I tried it out yesterday and maybe overdid it, but how can you not want to taste a few things at a new bakery. I had an iced cookie - nothing special. The peanut butter cookie was really good, a little chewy like it had some molasses. Really good, but didn't top Clementine's (they have a peanut butter layer inside their cookie). I topped it all off with a Peanut Butter Cupcake. Great moist chocolate cake and really nice peanut butter icing. Susan (maybe susie is reserved for returning customers) introduced herself and was very nice. I was impressed by the number of people and the volume of frosting that was going on. They were out of red velvet cupcakes (luckily for me), which I'll have to go back and try to see if they can top Doughboys or Toast's. 3 hours of volleyball and 1 spinning class later, I think I've worked it all off.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
