San Francisco Saloon

I had another great hamburger this afternoon at the San Francisco Saloon on Pico Blvd. I have been here before, but only to the bar for Irish Coffee (the best Irish Coffee west of Fairfax). My friend insists they have the best burger. We both had his favorite, the Cable Car. A char-grilled patty with mushrooms, jack cheese and avocado. I ordered it "as is", fighting my usual temptation to customize it into something that resembles the Office Burger. I am glad I did. You can't beat the fat on fat on fat combo of cheese, beef and avocado. You can really taste the char too. My friend even said that he once took a girlfriend here to break up with her. She had the Cable Car, then he told her it was over, and she took it well. It wasn't until a few hours later it hit her what had happened. True story (good fries, too).

This is awesome. Love the breakup story, that is hilarious. But let me tell you girl, when I saw that pic with the cheese literally sliding off the burger, oh please! Would ya stop torturing me over here, in the land-of-no-decent-burgers? ;-) I mean, you can taste the char? Fat on fat? Drool.

I haven't been to the Saloon in quite a while, but the Cable Car is my usual order, although I opt for the turkey burger. The service there is almost comical, I think that more than half the time, our bill is wrong. It could be becase they add the charges by hand most of the time.

They also have a pretty good deal at happy hour. Hmmm, I'm going to have to make a trip there in the near future..

Tried to eat there back in the early 90's. Waited to be seated for 10 minutes at 4PM... waitresses were too busy yapping to be interrupted by a party of four... a few uhmm's and excuse me's later, we finally were seated... weren't even given menus... 10 more minutes of waiting and we were out of there... left them a penny for their thoughts...will never forgive or forget that kind of neglect...

I'd go there every week with my softball team from work after our games, but the service took FOREVER. I think they're understaffed, but still... took forever to get our food and drinks.

I just went there for lunch and had the cable car. First of all, service was incredibly slow, but they were slammed, so I blame the understaffing, not the actual server. Secondly, the burger was full of gristle! Other than that it was ok, but the gristle killed it for me. Also got wings and they were disappointingly not crispy. Yummy beer, though...

A group of us would go to SF Saloon every Sunday for football (heaven help you if the 49'ers are playing). But other than that, its a great place to grab a beer, watch some games and enjoy some well above average bar-style food.

The burgers are great - I recommend the nachos as well.
Also, the turkey sandwich is very impressive, especially for a bar menu.

BEST NACHOS EVER. Burgers are deelish, too. Great sports bar, or hanging out with group of people.
